Will a car battery be completely charged by a Battery Charger if fully dead?
I have a battery that I bought back in July, and yesterday I gave a woman a jump at my little brother’s school. Today, my car is completely dead. I’m pretty sure it’s my battery, because I disconnected the battery, checked for corrosion and cleaned it before I reconnected it, and nothing (I didn’t even get a spark when I hooked it back up). If I hook up my battery charger to my car, should it give it enough power to start it up to take my car to get checked?
Yes it should give enough power to battery to start. Many Battery Chargers have a setting for quick start. Check fluid levels in your battery. If any are low top off with distilled water. Some batteries don’t allow you do to this as they are what is called zero maintenance. Hook up the charger and make sure lights, radio and such are off. I can’t honestly recommend putting anything but distilled water into the battery. But if you don’t have any you can use some tap water. When driving your car to have the battery checked out don’t use radio or fan.
Your battery can be recharged simply by driving it about 20 minutes. A battery going completely dead like yours did could have internal damage. Batteries that die like yours did usually have a shortened life. Please note I said usually. It’s not written in stone. But at about 3 months of age it shouldn’t have gone dead like it did. A solenoid or something else could have sustained some damage and need to be replaced. Sometimes the only way to tell is to charge the battery and see if it happens again. But get it checked out first. And if there is an issue with the battery it should be pro rated in cost to replace it.
